About the company
Guardian Media Group is amongst the world’s leading media organisations with a global, progressive audience.
Our main business is Guardian News & Media, which is the publisher of theguardian.com, one of the largest English-speaking quality news websites in the world. We also have a presence in the US and Australia as Guardian US and Guardian Australia. In the UK, we publish the Guardian newspaper six days a week and the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper, The Observer.
We are owned by The Scott Trust. Our ownership structure is unique and exists to secure the financial and editorial independence of the Guardian in perpetuity. It safeguards our journalistic freedom and liberal values, ensuring they remain free from commercial or political interference.
We have built a reputation for fearless reporting, agenda setting investigations and digital innovation. In November 2018 we announced that more than one million people have supported the Guardian financially over the last three years.
About the role
Join our team at the Guardian and be a part of a diverse and inclusive global organisation that delivers fearless, investigative journalism, and holds power to account. Our team of award-winning journalists, cutting-edge commercial professionals, and industry-leading digital experts are committed to making a difference and represent a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. We offer a challenging and exciting environment for career development, with a focus on training, growth and fostering an inclusive culture.
We are now looking for a Research & Insight Manager to drive informed decision-making and guide our strategies through actionable and insightful audience research.
You'll be working in the newly formed Audience Research team, which sits within the Strategy department, and reports directly to the Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer. The team supports the Editorial, Reader Revenues, Product, and Marketing departments. The Guardian has put 'Knowing our Audience' at the heart of it's strategy and this role will play a pivotal part in that.
Some of the things you could be doing are testing ideas for new podcasts and newsletters and helping improve existing ones, helping to improve our print products, increasing our understanding of our readers and supporters in order to improve their experience and testing and evaluating our marketing campaigns.
About the Role
Understanding internal stakeholder needs and objectives in order to provide them with the most relevant research, insight, and recommendations.
Collaborating with internal stakeholder groups to define research priorities that align with the organisation's strategy.
Taking ownership of proprietary audience research projects and running these from end-to-end, including running your own surveys, as well as managing the process of outsourcing both quantitative and qualitative research projects to agencies.
Analysing data from multiple sources (including TGI, PAMCo, comScore, etc.) to create insights.
About You
Relevant experience working in a similar role for a research supplier, media/digital agency, and/or as part of an in-house research team.
Highly developed analytical skills and a proven track record of translating research findings into actionable insights.
Strategic mindset with the ability to align research initiatives with broader business goals.
Ability to probe, question, persuade and influence.
Ability to extract the story from data and communicate using appropriate style and language to non-technical colleagues.
We value and respect all differences (seen and unseen) in all people at the Guardian. We aspire to have inclusive working experiences and an environment that reflects the audience we serve, where our people have equal access to career development opportunities, their voices are heard and can contribute to our future. The Guardian actively encourages applications from BAME candidates.
At the Guardian, many of our staff work flexibly and we will consider all requests for flexible working arrangements.
How to Apply
To apply, please upload your latest CV and a cover letter which outlines why you'd love to take on this role, and why you're a great match for what we're looking for.
