Role reports to: Director of strategy and planning

Team members: Futures director, senior strategic futures analyst, strategy director, senior strategist

Key responsibilities:

: Lead the application and translation of our foresight by devising trend frameworks that pull together a picture of key consumer, societal and cultural macro trends : Support teams to design and deliver workshops to unpack trend implications and ideation into identified innovation areas or creative platforms

: Conduct expert interviews, focus groups and other forms of consumer and stakeholder engagement

: Build and lead client relationships up to senior level, establishing yourself as a credible expert in strategic futures and foresight

: Be a strong voice for foresight and trend strategy within the business, writing and sharing case studies and useful insight with other teams

: Coach, inspire, and help to mentor junior members of the team. Educate and train colleagues by sharing knowledge on an ongoing basis

: Lead medium sized projects from proposal to delivery and collaborate to set project objectives, define project phases, and use project resources effectively to deliver practical results

: Form a deep understanding of the client’s challenges in short-, mid- and long term – look at the brief with a wider contextual view. Challenge the client’s brief when necessary : Represent The Future Laboratory through profile-raising initiatives including panels discussions, presenting, and writing occasional op-eds

: Building strong relationships with business development and project management colleagues is essential

The Trends Intelligence remit:

: This role has a critical bias towards the delivery of the more strategically driven trend frameworks - but does not exclude providing futures context, direction, and support to our more strategic programmes, to develop future growth opportunities, communication strategies and creative brand platforms

: This role will act as an ambassador between strategy and foresight, ensuring the trend intelligence and foresight framework are strategically healthy and fit for the purposes of application in a client environment

: The KPI’s set against this role will focus on the evolution of our Strategic Futures reports, Foresight Frameworks and Foresight Programmes playing a key role in pursuing new business opportunities for relationships of this nature and their ability to lead to further strategy work for the business

: This role will be required to review and report on the efficiencies and effectiveness of projects delivered for clients and continuously seek to improve and refresh the approaches that ensure the delivery of directional, actionable, and measurable strategies

Requirements

: 5-6+ years of experience working in the futures and research space

: Deep understanding of trend and insights research and methodologies : Multi-disciplinary with a broad frame of reference

: Can demonstrate gravitas with clients

: Ability to identify and communicate a range of possible futures and make them impactful for multiple client functions and time horizons

: Ever curious, interested in global cultures, change, and evolution of human behaviours : Experience of writing independently with limited senior input

: Comfortable interpreting client’s briefs and creating strategic structure to research- must have a demonstratable commercial sensibility

: Ability to mentor junior team members

: Experience that demonstrates an entrepreneurial nature and sense of creativity : Thrives on collaboration and is strategic and creative in their thinking
